Don't ask me where this came from today - I'm not an overly-religious person.  Nonetheless, we all have moments...I think this one will be joined up with my guitar later.

A Trucker's Prayer

(c) Eddie Minyard (BMI)

V1

The wind blows the snow 'cross this cold mountain highway

Like a hawk chasin' after a hundred white snakes

And I'm tryin' hard to keep the shiney side up

Workin' the clutch and avoidin' the brakes

Chorus

Oh Lord, help me get though this long winter night

Past this dark, lonely stretch

To the safety of the Light

Just ride here beside me

Till we make the next town

I'd feel a lot better

If You'd hang around

V2

Been many a trucker that's lost all they had

By hammerin' down with no fear of the dark

With nothing to guide them, but an old GPS

Might have been better off with this prayer in their hearts

Chorus

Oh Lord, help me get though this long winter night

Past this dark, lonely stretch

To the safety of the Light

Just ride here beside me

Till we make the next town

I'd feel a lot better

If You'd hang around

Yes I always feel better

Knowin' You're hangin' 'round

Great job on this, Eddie!  I think it sums up what most truckers feel out there on the road alone.  I think that they all might feel comfort knowing that Someone's watching out for them!   And I think that so many of them can relate to this!  I'm looking forward to hearing this eventually in the Open Mic!

Eddie you more than likely have music for this ,then it will all work well PO think the first part of the chorus sounded /read a bit clunky .the second part a lot better

oh Lord help,me get through this long winter night

it's dark and I'm lonley let me see the light         - or maybe a light

this feels a bit religious not ment to just how it came out

Thanks for the comments. I just wrote this today - lots of room for changes. Thanks for the suggestions!

This had a really good feel to it for me. I've done a lot of driving lately, and even though I'm not really religious either, I know the place you can be, driving alone at night like that. I can't wait to hear this one after you get your music behind it :)

I love the Title, it's perfect. This lyric will resonate with every truck driver in the world facing

a dangerous drive dealing  with on coming snow.  Can't wait to hear it in the Open Mic. Give us

the heads up when it's done and dusted.

Excellent truck driving song Eddie!  You have the feel of being behind the wheel of a big rig nailed. Been a while since there has been a huge truck driving hit. Good luck with it for sure.

This is a good description of what a trucker has to endure in winter.  My dad was a trucker for 40 years.

Wow - thanks for the great endorsement!  I've spent a lot of time in those rigs - but in the other seat.  Still, in my work, I log a LOT of highway miles.  Glad you like it, Jim!
