Monterey Lady

V1
She was the light of my day out of Monterey
A lady through and through
Under a lovers moon on a night in June
She promised she’d always be true
From the very start she was the tide of my heart
We were both fools of desire
On a desert run we flew to close to the sun
Still wanting─ to fly higher
V2
How high can love go?
You’ll never know until you really try it
Listen to me, love’s not free
It may not be as you like it
Then came that night, the end of our flight
She was a wild wind from the start
She set out to sea on a southern breeze
Leaving me; with a broken heart
Chorus
Monterey Lady, so young, so free
She’s my Monterey Lady,
She’s walking poetry
Monterey Lady, belongs to the sea
My Monterey Lady,
Sailed away from me
(Instrumental Bridge/Middle Eight)
V3
What can you do when loves fever strikes you?
And takes you to your knees?
You get up off the floor and you beg for more,
More loving if you please
A rider of the tide she took me for a ride
Left me standing on the shore
Looking out to sea wishing she was with me
Wanting her to love her; even more
Chorus
Monterey Lady, so young, so free
She’s my Monterey Lady,
She’s walking poetry,
Monterey Lady, belongs to the sea
My Monterey Lady,
Sailed away from me
