Sometimes I will say "There is nothing WRONG with this song, just not enough RIGHT with it." What that means usually is just that the song doesn't grab me.

Sometimes a great arraangement can totally change a "meh " song too.
2 examples. There are many many more going way back.
I always thought the Beatles " A little help from my friends" was too lame for a Beatles song. Then I heard Joe Cockers version.
The song was the same but the performance and arrangement were WOW!!!
different era and genre..
Frank Sinatra "New York New York" And Cat Power version . Franks was ok for the what and when but totally revitalised by Cat Power.
So.. Even a good but still Meh song can be lifted IF you are an artist too and have a gifted producer/Arranger/engineer on your team

backing your judgement with cash and having CONTACTS that can lead you to the production team and being open to new ideas of how the song could sound
