Good posts guys. Phil, I apologize to you for my music stand comments. You are absolved. In the future, don't let Kevin drag you down into his mental abyss. Kevin, actually the thing you mentioned about so many people using music stands is one of my PET PEEVES about how LAZY people have gotten here. I watch these performers come in over and over and over, doing the SAME SONGS EACH WEEK at places like BOBBY'S and they STILL HAVE THE MUSIC STANDS UP.
AND THEIR MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE IT. Robotic, sounds like they are reading the lyrics (they are), and no passion or any real connection with their own music. If THEY CAN'T CONNECT, HOW DO THEY EXPECT AN AUDIENCE, RECORD COMPANY OR PUBLISHERS TO CONNECT?

It is one of the current problems I have seen for many years in this town. The new people coming in have VERY LITTLE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING. It is a symptom of the FACEBOOK/SOCIAL MEDIA world we live in. There is no craft, in the writing or performing of the songs, no connection with audiences, even having songs that are far removed from any sort of entertainment at all.
I always hate to say the old "Back in my day..." thing, but GEEEEZZZZZEEE There is such a difference in the past 10 years and the preceeding generations. Even where people USED lyric sheets (my friend and the late great KIM WILLIAMS, always had them with him. But Kim had health problems and medication he took sometimes affected his memory, so he had to. But he still had a PASSION in those huge hits for Garth Brooks, and others. And of course, it is pretty fun when someone forgets a lyric and the WHOLE CROWD sings it out!
Even my friend and mentor Jimbeau Hinson will forget some words sometimes, he has his wife Brenda as a teleprompter, but he powers through. And that is what you have to do.
So guys, just remember, you've been MABBED!!! From now on, LEARN YOUR SONGS and leave the music stand to other less qualified writers. Let them look bad. You don't have to!
Off to Alabama to start work on my Mother's house and personal effects. She passed away last month and there are a lot of details to attend to. Everyone have a good day and thanks for getting some activity over here.
