Thread: MAB Q&A
OD OldDog

Okay, I'm back for my 2nd post.  Unlike Philboy this old guy remembers every detail with precision and precise detail.  Ha!!! (only teasin).

Day 2.....
We had Tuesday open for the most part except that night a pro writer friend of Philboy's was performing at a nearby club called the Opry Back Stage Grill (or something like that).  Philboy and I are both retired but KevMo is still an active working member of society and is a self employed business man with his own computer advisory company.  Typically KevMo's business runs pretty smoothly (according to him) but during our trip a few of his customers were experiencing computer problems that he needed to deal with.  On Tuesday morning we enjoyed some coffee on the back deck, inbetween KevMo's attempts to help his customers deal with their computer issues.  He was shocked that all of a sudden a few customers had issues and needed his help to solve them.  He was pretty busy on his laptop so Philboy and I made a trip to Walmart and we stopped by the Opry Back Stage Grill for lunch and to check the place out because we intended to go back there that evening to hear his friend Steve Williams along with Will Nance, his wife,  and another talented lady perform that evening.  Philboy and I sat at the bar for lunch and once we paid our bill and were walking out to the parking lot, Philboy thought maybe we should make a reservation for that evening.  I stayed outside while he went back inside until time went by and the sun was beating down on me, and I realize I should not have allowed the windy Philboy to go back inside on his own.  In his defense there was another person ahead of him taking their good old time and when I got back inside (to the air-conditioning) Philboy was just beginning to speak to the owner to make our reservations.  We showed up that evening expecting to hear Steve Williams and Will perform some of their hit songs but they began their show performing older tunes to please the dinner crowd.  We didn't stay around long enough to hear them perform their former hit songs.

This gives me a chance to pick on Philboy a little bit, for those of you that have never met him.  Philboy is a wonderful guy and truly a very dear friend of mine.  He has put up with this old guy on many visits to Nashville over the years, when I would get in the beer and he has always been very good about being my designated driver and getting me back to our motel safe and sound.  Everyone truly loves Philboy for the good man he is; but I have to tell on him a little.  Philboy is a former computer geek and he has a natural tendancy to over analyze everything.  Things have to make sense to him and everything must fall into place before he can make sense of it and accept the facts.

Philboy has a great sense of direction and has a built in GPS system in his brain.  He often talks to himself while trying to figure out which direction he is driving and where all the roads will take him.  During one trip to Bobby's Idol Hour, Philby took the wrong exit and refused to turn around like KevMo, myself, and the GPS on KevMo's phone suggested. However; Philboy talked to himself during the entire drive and did indeed end up at our location on time.  It was during another trip Philboy gave KevMo and I a quote that was out of a Yogi Berra book. KevMo was trying to use the GPS from his smart phone to help Philboy out when Philboy blurted out "I know where it is; I just don't know how to get there".  OMG!!!   KevMo and I laughed over that one all the way to town and we couldn't wait to share his statement with MAB and Tina once we met up with them.  Oh, that was so precious.

Okay, our entertainment for Tuesday evening is over and we're back at the house enjoying a few drinks on the back deck.  Wednesday morning found us enjoying our coffee on the back deck but we didn't have much time before the boy's had to check in at Sam's Jam at the famous 16th Avenue bar "Bobby's Idol Hour".  They were scheduled to go on at 1:00.

Surprisingly we got there early and thought KevMo and Philboy would be the first act; but once we arrived (shortly after noon), there was already another round going on.  Okay; we could deal with that and obviously Sam had a lot of people that wanted to perform that day.  Our boy's went on around 1:00 and did a very good job.  The music continued that day (even though we left for lunch) but when we came back long before MAB's saved slot to perform at 4:00 everything was moving along and Sam's Jam included many acts.  Once MAB got on stage he included Jalinda and Charles into his act and later Charles and JaLinda performed their own show also.  It was a great time.

Now for the benefit of Wags, I have to tell the story of JaLinda bringing in a couple of her girlfriends to witness what her and Charles do in the entertainment business.  Sometime during the show on Wednesday, the barmaid (and MAB's friend, but damn if I can remember her name) remembered the Old Dog from a previous trip and how I once slipped some dollar bills in the back pocket of her jeans.  After just meeting JaLinda's friends,  the bar maid came over and said her back pockets still had room for dollar bills; which I gladly stuffed a few in her back pocket.  JaLinda's friend sitting next to me was not impressed and looked away.  Once the bar maid left I looked at JaLinda's friend (I called JaDevon) to explain it was not as bad as it seemed, the barmaid was my relative.  Ha!!!   JaDevon looked at me and said "Thanks, that helps".  Oh, it didn't stop there Wags, JaLinda's other friend (I called Ja...something......  Damn I've having a Philboy moment), but she was really nice and went along with my drunken assed humor and allowed me to propose to her, even though she packed a rock on her left hand the size of a Cadillac.bumper.

OMG what a time we had and MAB's show was fantastic but even I was not prepared for the MAB show that would tale place on Thursday evening, that birthday show he brought in all of his friends to perform for his birthday; but mostly for Susie's Memorial Party.  S.O.B.  That show needs another post and more explanation.  I'll grab another beer and be back.
