A wise Artist/Hit Songwriter once told me...

"Justin, you just sit back and watch. Facebook will end the careers of more musicians, than drugs or alcohol ever did."

Moral of the story:

If you support your family, and put food on your table by trying to retain, and GAIN a fanbase, just take a moment to breathe, and think before you post. The bigger you get, the more politically diverse your audience will become. That's a good thing! However, you spend a lifetime building an "image" in this music business, don't destroy it because you can't resist opining on the latest #CauseDeJour or the temptation to simply "rant" publicly at any time, especially in this heated political season.

Don't allow arrogance to cloud your judgment, (especially for us Texans!!!) LOL Never lie to yourself, and say "If they don't like what I say, they can go listen to someone else! I don't need em" Remember what pride comes before...? Sure a few outlaw artists/legends "bucked the system" back in the day, but that was a lot of image, and the pioneers of "outlaw country" conformed first, became well known, THEN changed their public image, and Facebook wasn't around either. Ignore this at your own peril, you MAY get away with it, but... you MAY not! You never know when the "line" has been crossed in a listeners mind. Why risk it???

I'm not preaching, my livelihood doesn't depend on fans, I have a day job. I'm just trying to pay forward some sound advice I once received that's come to mind as I scroll through my feed this morning.

Just food for thought.

Write on,

Justin
