Question.....

When  you are sending a cd with a song on it to a radio station, and you are sending more than one song. Do you send a separate cd for each song or put them all on one cd?

thanks Peggy

Peggy, if you are "sending in" a CD to a radio station and they didn't ask for it, it doesn't matter because it's going in the trash anyway. They can't and don't listen to unsolicited material and couldn't play it if they wanted to. There are not enough hours in the day, and they cannot even go through all the hundreds of CD's they get, many of them from the MAJOR ARTISTS. Remember, even the songs of Lady Ga Ga, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, etc. don't always get played.

If you are doing a SINGLE release, and do it through a publicity campaign and have an ARTIST involved (if you are the artist and are touring in the area, the MIGHT play it, but if you are NOT on a major label they CANNOT play it.) There are also liscencing concerns and part of the latest PRO news, about "Consent Decrees and who liscences songs are going to stop even more songs from being played.

If it is a small radio station, college or local stations, they have a little more leeway, but are not going to go through your CD to find one they like.

You have to "flip the desk." If you are a radio station, you are there to sell ADVERTISING TIME. You are not there to MAKE careers. Major labels buy ADVERTISING TIME. ADVERTISING TIME keeps the lights on, pays the liscencing fees ,salaries, etc.

You might be more successful finding web sites or pod casting sites that might play your music. If you are going to do that, you would need to provide a decent package, picture of the artist, cover letter on them, label and contact information, pertinate publishing info.

The main thing to do now, Peggy is by pass radio completely and go to YOU TUBE, with a simple video of the song. That is really the mover and shaker of the world now. Going to radio is sort of like getting your 8 track tapes all polished and ready for release! you can make them PERFECT, but they are STILL 40 years out of date.
Radio is still there, but now it is a step done LATER in the journey.
