A country/bluegrass lyric I came up with

The Front Porch Collective

(Vs)

We got mouth harps, banjo's and mandolins

guitars and lap steels, between all our kin and friends

Every Saturday night, we congregate right here

Playin our southern hearts out;  tippin homemade beer

(Ch)

We're the front porch collective

together we are one.

Our only objective

is to play and have some fun.

We're schooled in music,

with Country our selective

Come and have a good time

with the front porch collective

(Vs)

You're more than welcome, to join us anytime

Throwin in some clappin, pipes or homemade wine

The only thing required, is laughter and a smile

Make your way to the holler, and party awhile

(Ch)

We're the front porch collective

together we are one.

Our only objective

is to play and have some fun.

We're schooled in music,

with Country our selective

Come and have a good time

with the front porch collective

(Bridge)

We play Paycheck, Merle and Jones;

Waylon and Johnny Cash

Some Earl and Scruggs, old Ernest Tubb

All the greats of country past

We won't touch this new stuff

called Country, but it's not

Only play, what you can truly say

Is country at its top

(Ch)

We're the front porch collective

together we are one.

Our only objective

is to play and have some fun.

We're schooled in music,

with Country our selective

Come and have a good time

with the front porch collective

Great lyrics here!  Love the rhymes you came up with. One of the things that "bore" me with songs is predictability with the rhymes.  I was far from bored with this one.  :)  One thing that came to me while reading the chorus, where you say "We're schooled in music with Country our selective".  Although the word "selective" works (and I knew exactly what you were meaning there), I'm just wondering if maybe the word "elective" migh be even stronger than "selective".  The only reason I say that is because when dealing with choosing a class or something, the word "elective" seems to be more widely used than "selective".    Just a thought.  "Keep it or sweep it", as they say.

Hi Gwyneth,John and Dale. Thanks for the read and nice comments. I ask that you all forgive my delays, I'm on some meds that make concentrating on more than one thing VERY hard. So it's a fight to focus and then think of replies. I hope to get this to music soon, it's a personal fav of mine, and the "elective" "selective" thing I will take under serious advisement, but I have changed the line "We're schooled in music" to "Homeschooled in music" on my hard drive. So I will ponder which word "elective" or "selective" is best. Anyone else want to throw in their opinion on Dales idea? I appreciate that suggestion very much, but am torn.

Hi, James

I'll second Dale's suggestion.  Very nice lyric. When I read this the first time I kept trying to find a substitute word for selective to articulate best what it is the singer is trying to get across. I think  'elective' achieves that goal within the context of what you've written.

Elective got my vote too. So now its' 3 up Happy

Please share this with us wihen it's done and dusted. I think it will be exquisite.

Hugs

"Elective" it is, and shall be!..I'll do the slight rewrite today after the festivities. I thought I had a musician lined up to put music and vocals to this, but I guess I'm going to look for another. Thanks to all for their comments and input. Very appreciated!
