I dropped the keys as I closed the door
When I bent down to get them my pants tore
I grabbed the keys, locked the door, turned around
And I ran for the bus that takes me downtown
To the same job I've had for too many years
For not enough money to ever get clear
As I sat on the bus with my knees together
I watched her get on at Fair and Merryweather
Her dark brown hair glowed and danced
She paid her fare and gave me a glance
I guess I was staring as she moved down the aisle
Cause she sat next to me and gave me a smile

There was no way my smile could get any bigger
I was happily wrapped around her little finger

Last stop, ride's over, sleep on your own time."
I shook my head as I looked about
And I almost cried when I figured it out
I dreamt it all as I sat on the bus
Now I'm late for work, there won't be any us
I wish my life was more like that dream
And less like the nightmare it usually seems
I guess I'll sew my pants when I get back home
It might take my mind off of being alone
I lost half a day's pay, but what bothers me most
Is losing my heart to a dream on the bus
