This will not be covered on American Idol. But the message is one that is enduring.
?Did you ever decide you are going to do something YOUR WAY - For Yourself - For Your Family?
I grew up in Appalachia, Virginia. Met a lot of people that made their own way. My wife grew up in a town one county over in West Virginia. We both recall people who would sing these lines without hesitation and without melody. To tell you the truth, my neighbor Silvia, an native American, made the best wine from wildflowers that you would ever find anywhere.
This song is really about us trying to take our homegrown music and make it big. My Brandy was Our Dream.
My Brandy
(y’all at home know what we really call it)
Making my brandy in a hideout
Keepin’ my rifle by my side
Cookin’ good apples
And throwin’g the bad ones away
Poppa and grany on the lookout
Keepin’ the bottle in their eyes
Basically speakin’
They’re keepn the varmints away
chorus
Now I made up my mind
Won’t give it up this time
Makin the sweetest wine
Finding some bottles nice and handy
Putting the Brandy in it’s place
Nothing will stop me
Not even a gun to my face
Throwing a party with My Brandy
Toting a rifle by my side
Something is special about
Drinking the Brandy I made.
Chorus
Sax
