A recent  songwriting class assignment had us all write potential song titles on slips of paper, put in a hat, and then pass it around.                                The mission was to write a song to match the title.
                                Fun assignment. I highly recommend it!
This is the title I drew....


                                          normal">I Will Rise But I Won’t Shine
 Had myself a girl
 She was my whole world
Sun rose and set on her

 Came one day she went away
 Broke this heart of mine
 No more good mornings
     When the sun comes up I cry

                                  (and that’s why) I will rise but I won’t shine  
                                   I can’t wipe these tears out of my eyes
                               Every new day only brings the same old pain
                                             Ain’t no blue skies only rain

I thought that she would always be
 Right here with me
 By my side forever more

 Now everything has changed
 Nothin’ is the same
The only thing I hold at night
 Is her picture in a frame

 (and that’s why) I will rise but I won’t shine  
 I can’t wipe these tears out of my eyes
Every new day only brings the same old pain
 Ain’t no blue skies only rain

      She left me here alone
    By myself all alone
     I look into that mirror and the only thing I see
          Is an empty space beside me where she used to be

 Every night before I sleep
 I pray the lord my soul will keep
 ‘Til that morning when I see

 Dark clouds disappear
 Blue skies up above
A rainbow and just like before the girl I dream of

  (‘til then)I will rise but I won’t shine 
   I can’t wipe these tears out of my eyes
    Every new day only brings the same old pain
      Ain’t no blue skies all I got is rain
