Tom Ebelt songs
Grandpa Ebelt was a poet. In one of his poems, titled "The Langell Boys" he told of his youth in Bay City, Michigan, and among other things, of how he and his friends would swim in the Saginaw river in the waves made by the big steamships as they passed. The Langell Boys was one of those ships.
I have use his imagry metaphorically in writing this song, and have titled it in his memory...

Oh we have been waiting for the ship Langell Boys.
For the circus-sweet summer of the kids and the noise.
And our days pass like pages of a LIFE magazine.
And show all our pictures with words in-between.
And our thoughts are like children we nourish from birth.
And they drink of our bodies, shine of our worth.
When the time comes for counting all the things that we've lost.
Will our memories be blessings or countings of cost.
Will we sigh at misfortunes and sorrows we've met.
Or remember the good times not to forget.
And the boys in the river are bobbing like toys.
In the swells of the steamer, the ship Langell Boys.
Have faith in your spirit, It'll keep you alive.
For living is more than the fight to survive.
And the ship toots for passage and the bridge girders shake.
And a dozen tan bodies jump into her wake.
And the boys in the river are bobbing like toys.
In the swells of the steamer, the ship Langell Boys.
