Tom Ebelt songs
This is a ballad of a ghost ship and of the ghost town it called it's home port. I was inspired by a vacation visit to the preserved ruins of Fayette, Michigan, now a state park on a peninsula at the northern tip of Lake Michigan. In it's heyday at the turn of the century, it was a company town that made pig iron in its blast furnaces. Now it is an incredibly beautiful pastoral scene, complete with preserved ruins, and the most gorgeous little harbor I have ever seen.

This song tells an imaginary story of a shipwreck just outside the harbor, and out of reach of family and rescuers from the village.
BY STARLIGHT
There's a ship that's sailing on the sea
All alone but it can't be free.
And the spirits guide her throught the night,
Drifting softly by starlight.
Shadow sails fill with wind
When there's a breeze that's blowing in.
You can smell the sorrow of the wreck
And the waves that washed her ghostly deck.
(Chorus)
And at night she sails on, her flags they fly
And her endless longing won't let them die.
So close to home, too far to reach
The loving arms along the beach.
And the darkness keeps her safe
On the water above their grave.
In the starlight you hear the bell
And the moaning of their sad farwell.
When the morning sun does rise,
See the harbor where near she lies.
From the crumbled houses to the rotting docks
The bodies washed upon the rocks.
(chorus)
And at night she sails on, her flags they fly
And her endless longing won't let them die.
So close to home, too far to reach
The loving arms along the beach.
