Rob! - you are one amazing musician! - I'm so glad you happened upon this lyric on my page - and even more glad that you persuaded Anne to sing it! Between you, you have captured the sombre mood perfectly! Thank you both! :)

            goodness gracious. this is just so moving. what an incredible trio. 'fond farewell', 'fickle winds'...good golly. this is just good as it gets bar none. the melody, voice, arrangement and lyric/sentiment all play so well together. a major Y O W S E R. stellar Rob, Sis and Bee.

            I wouldn't say that Rob's part was easy but with a lyric such as this, his role must've been made so. Inspired, I'd say.
            I'm always impressed when two separate writers can gel like this without being in the same room. I can't imagine any other, or better melody and music to make those feathers float like this.
            And who else to capture it all in perfect essence? Anne's dreamy, smooth vocal, of course. Rob's touch of Olde English music and the way he plays it could stand alone, as could the lyric as an ode but the three of you have made this bitter-sweet song a Classic.
            You must be proud.. I know I would be. ~ John

            Lovely production collab by some of our favorites! A haunting lament, richly brought to motion by Rob's guitar, and filled with the emotion of Annes voice! Written delicately with a thought-proviking turn!

            Where to begin on this treasure?? Rob's sophisticated guitar lines felt so smooth and graceful. Anne, as always, brought us a beautiful vocal, sensitive and so musically right. and dear Aunt Bee wove us a delightful lyric, most touching indeed.

            This is absolutely wonderful! Anne's vboice is a treasure and Rob's 6-string performance is impeccable. And talk about a hard-hitting and well crafted lyric! This is a superb effort on all three fronts. The production shines as well.

            That's lovely, folks. It always impresses me how Rob can record his ukelele parts with such brightness and presence. Anne's airy vocal is extremely well controlled - it's as light as a feather, in fact. And the lightness is assisted by the well-chosen sounds of the words - all those soft consonants and alliterative 'f' words keep the lyrical texture floating freely.

            (Incidentally, I'm curious as to whether you anticipated the American pronunciation of 'futile' when you wrote the words?!?!)
