Lyrics by Beeswing
Melody and guitar by RJC (Rob Campbell)
Vocals by SISTERS (Anne Cozean)
A desolate and sad kinda song.
Rob! - you are one amazing musician! - I'm so glad you happened upon this lyric on my page - and even more glad that you persuaded Anne to sing it! Between you, you have captured the sombre mood perfectly! Thank you both! :)
Feathers of Futility
Light as air, like the summer breeze
He was there
I should have known it was far too easy
I should have known, but I didn't care
Futile feathers scattered everywhere
Another day, another winning smile
He asked me to stay
I think I knew he was not my style
I think I knew, but I didn't say
Futile feathers took my breath away
Feathers of futility
Wave their less than fond farewells
They've tickled and they've tempted
They've emptied me of everything I had to say
Now on the fickle wind they float away
Feathers of futility
Faithless as the wind they float away
I must be strong, you tell me all the time
I've been wrong
I should have seen the warning signs
I should have seen them all along
Futile feathers each and every one
Feathers of futility
Wave their less than fond farewells
They've tickled and they've tempted
They've emptied me of everything I had to say
Now on the fickle wind they float away
Feathers of futility
Faithless as the wind they float away

| PamelaElaine 2008-12-11 | Sweet melody. Excellent lyrics, Diane. How is everything with you? I haven't been on the ramp in a while. I still like coming back to hear my friends. Anne did a fantastic job on the vocals as always. Really enjoyed! PamelaElaine |
| Rard 2008-12-11 | goodness gracious. this is just so moving. what an incredible trio. 'fond farewell', 'fickle winds'...good golly. this is just good as it gets bar none. the melody, voice, arrangement and lyric/sentiment all play so well together. a major Y O W S E R. stellar Rob, Sis and Bee. |
| pianoman3 2008-12-11 | I wouldn't say that Rob's part was easy but with a lyric such as this, his role must've been made so. Inspired, I'd say. I'm always impressed when two separate writers can gel like this without being in the same room. I can't imagine any other, or better melody and music to make those feathers float like this. And who else to capture it all in perfect essence? Anne's dreamy, smooth vocal, of course. Rob's touch of Olde English music and the way he plays it could stand alone, as could the lyric as an ode but the three of you have made this bitter-sweet song a Classic. You must be proud.. I know I would be. ~ John |
| dillon 2008-12-11 | Lovely production collab by some of our favorites! A haunting lament, richly brought to motion by Rob's guitar, and filled with the emotion of Annes voice! Written delicately with a thought-proviking turn! |
| ASongsmith 2008-12-11 | Wonderful collaboration here, Diane and RJ. Keep up the great work. |
| bennie 2008-12-11 | ...yes,...a touch of Olde English folklore in folksong giving a timeless feel,...brought forth by the descriptive lyric, dark, modal music, and soft, smooth vocals....beautiful. thanx,...for just being. bending |
| lucywebster 2008-12-11 | Three's the charm....ALL of you did a mighty fine creative job on this....!!! PS You're all my fav's : ) |
| Jerwolf 2008-12-11 | Where to begin on this treasure?? Rob's sophisticated guitar lines felt so smooth and graceful. Anne, as always, brought us a beautiful vocal, sensitive and so musically right. and dear Aunt Bee wove us a delightful lyric, most touching indeed. |
| sideman66 2008-12-11 | This is absolutely wonderful! Anne's vboice is a treasure and Rob's 6-string performance is impeccable. And talk about a hard-hitting and well crafted lyric! This is a superb effort on all three fronts. The production shines as well. Alan |
| poorandneedy 2008-12-12 | Always a favorite lyric. Rob and Anne express this so thoughtfully..memorable song and performance..Thanks--Greg |
| LittleHippie 2008-12-12 | wow, the clarity on the performance is stunning, both vocally and instrumentally. beautiful collab ya'll!!!!!!! |
| manatthewindow 2008-12-16 | That's lovely, folks. It always impresses me how Rob can record his ukelele parts with such brightness and presence. Anne's airy vocal is extremely well controlled - it's as light as a feather, in fact. And the lightness is assisted by the well-chosen sounds of the words - all those soft consonants and alliterative 'f' words keep the lyrical texture floating freely. (Incidentally, I'm curious as to whether you anticipated the American pronunciation of 'futile' when you wrote the words?!?!) JahLove; ~GerryMATW |
| Tburd54 2008-12-17 | Nice work you all ...something fine to say about love, put with excellent melody and musical guitar tracks and sung with style and feeling..enjoyed this song! Terry |
| GregTaylor 2009-01-13 | Another really good tune. |
| Batin 2009-03-14 | A splendid collaboration. (-: Lovely lyric, Beeswing. Beautiful vocals by Anne, and fine playing by Rob. I love the simplicity and depth of the song. Donna |
| DiannaPaige 2009-04-25 | Haunting vocals...creative lyrics set against a guitar tapestry...very nice! |
