This is an old song of John's that I helped him bring back to life. He posted it on his page over a year ago.
Today is John's birthday, and it strikes me that some of the words I wrote in this song might be particularly apt as birthday wishes for him.
...Beneath that shady tree my friend, there are songs still to be sung. It's time to take it easy in the soft September sun...
Happy Birthday John!
...you've so much more to give old friend....the best is surely yet to come! :)
Indian Summer revisited © 2011 J.Kenney/D.Rulliere
You had your times of flying high, sometimes you fell too hard
And through it all you've always worn your heart on your guitar
Lonely roads and weekend shows and tears too often shed
I guess by now you've earned the right to rest your weary head
Indian Summer make your grey sky blue
Indian Summer I think you’re overdue
Indian Summer, you paid the price it's true
Indian Summer is what I wish for you
Now you can leave it all behind, it's time to come on home
And maybe now at last you'll find the peace you've never known
Beneath that shady tree my friend, there are songs still to be sung
It's time to take it easy in the soft September sun
Indian Summer make your grey sky blue
Indian Summer I think you’re overdue
Indian Summer you paid the price it's true
Indian Summer is what I wish for you
You've so much more to give old friend
your story isn't nearly done
Golden days you lived my friend
the best is surely yet to come
Indian Summer make your grey sky blue
Indian Summer I think you’re overdue
Indian Summer you paid the price it's true
Indian Summer is what I wish for you
