The life I still know

Words by Carroll Kiphen a really good friend of mine and I'm considering making it into a song/
What do you thinks?
Barry

Verse

The fifties and sixties

are frozen in time

the actors are ageless

a coke was a dime.

Andy is still sheriff

and Floyd still cuts hair

Old Otis still drinks

more than his share.

               Chorus

    Its fun reminiscing

    How things used to be

    back before life

put a hard edge on me.

    When I need reminding

    I make my way home

    turn the TV

to the life I still know.

Verse

Tall tales about cowboys

made popular shows.

We could scarcely wait till

the next episode.

Marshall Dillon would draw

his trusty six gun.

You could always be sure

that justice was done.

       Chorus

    Its fun reminiscing

    how things used to be

    back before life

put a hard edge on me.

    When I need reminding

    I make my way home

    turn the TV

t   o the life I still know.

Verse

We grew up in households

where mom stayed at home;

when kids had a problem

their father would know.

Like Wally and Beaver

we learned the hard way .

Sometimes I still wish I

was back in those days.

     Bridge

It’s like finding those old jeans

          you’d lost long ago.

They don’t fit how the used to

But you can’t let them go.

the melody just flows through the words and it  has an easy way about it.     but think to the life i still know , feels kind of strange .           the life i remember . the way life was .
when time moved so slow.   some of the lines i think need a little attention ,  the bridge  does not relly wrap it all up PO

time has moved on
as all of us know
but sometimes i wish
it was still long ago
summers felt endless
we had so much fun
but we all have to
grow up and move on

Hi Barry
Very nice sentimental lyric which would appeal to many of us older folk!

I do think though that a change in rhyme scheme from verse/chorus/bridge would make a difference as I got the same sort of melody throughout!

Just my thoughts but overall a nice write and I enjoyed the read and I often think of my younger daysLol! Wishing I could go back to the simpler life.

All the best

Hey, Barry! I'm 69 and recording with women half my age, also singing karaoke with them.  But I'm in Nashville, and that's where the action is if you're a songwriter.

Hey Jim....I'm in Sebring, Florida and the ONLY action here is the Early Bird Dinner and Shuffleboard.
Let me know IF you're ever stuck for a melody or more songs for HER or anybody else you run across.
I write good melodies. Barry
