Drive By Lover

© Gary Orphey

(V1)

You came around the corner – and swept me off my feet

The kind of woman – I’ve always wanted to meet

I was sure the love was mutual – as our romance quickly grew

A great couple by all standards – both in love that’s true

(V2)

Like lightning it was over – you were gone and out of sight

I couldn’t find you anywhere – it was boom – out went my lights

No sirens at the crime scene – when you vanished to my surprise

I was gunned down by my own lover – the one with those big

Blue eyes

(Chorus))

You were a drive by lover – you shot me down and hit the gas

Another notch on your stockings – you took me out and did it fast

A drive by lover a true man killer – a cheap novel plot

(Eight beat guitar lick intro into) But not a thriller

(Instrumental bridge)

(V 3)

Stories are told about drive bys – you hear them all the time

I would have bet – a hundred to one – a drive by would never be mine

Now here i sit – a broken man – staring at a white washed wall

Wondering only one thing – can a dead man stop the fall

(Chorus))

You were a drive by lover – you shot me down and hit the gas

Another notch on your stockings – you took me out and did it fast

A drive by lover a true man killer – a cheap novel plot...

(Eight beat guitar lick intro into) But not a thriller

Hi Gary

This is my 1st post and I hope I have not stepped out of bounds with my obsevations and of course they are only my thoughts as  I read your lyric.

I like the story of this and the hook is great, I think the last 2 lines in the chorus need some work!

I dont quite get the novel idea? maybe I'm missing the point of it?

I thought back to the 1st verse and that somethong along the lines of this might fit well?

I did have another idea that he should of stayed at home it would have worked out cheaper LOL!

You were a drive by lover – you shot me down and hit the gas

Another notch on your stockings – you took me out and did it fast

A drive by lover a real man eater– I thought I'd found the one

I'd thought I'd found a keeper

Just my thoughts and overall this is a very well written lyric.

Cheers

Gary, Your chorus has some strong images, especially the one about putting another notch on her stockings.  That added some sexiness! Rush Limbaugh is always talking about the drive by media, and I couldn't help thinking of him.
