A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links. A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in a person's life and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people.Blogs are alternatively called web logs or weblogs. However, "blog" seems less likely to cause confusion, as "web log" can also mean a server's log files.
Question: Hi, I am interested in the offer to buy into the company. I was wondering if you could give me a more detailed description of the offer so that I could better understand what I am buying. Thanks,
Al Answer: Hey Al - thanks for your interest. The deal is, SongRamp is a Limited Liability Company. Without boring you with all the details, that means we have the right and ability to invite paying members to become "Members of the LLC" - LLC's don't have "shareholders", per se, but those owning a piece of the action are called Members.
The following is a part of a memo I sent to the open membership a while back. It will give you some idea of what this is all about. Before you read it, you should know that SongRamp suffered, nearly failing. I got together with them and acquired the operation, leading to this unique, member-owned concept.
Over the course of the last several months (and many discussions, between the Membership, a “focus group” selected by Eddie, and NSAI) we have come to the conclusion that a Member-Owned solution is one which will give the membership the ultimate in control of its own destiny. And, it... [more]

Question: Receiving a "Credit Card Decline" Message. Why is my card declined? Answer: A credit card decline comes from your bank. Your bank does not provide us with specific information about the decline. You will need to contact your bank for the details. Usually, the expiration date, name, address or zip didn't match what is on file with your bank. Sometimes the card company places a hold on cards when concerned that recent purchases may be fraudulent (or out of norm for someone's spending habits), a payment is late, or the credit limit is reached.
Question: Receiving an "Invalid Account Number" Message. Answer: This usually indicates a typo in your credit card number or security number. For Visa, MasterCard & Discover make sure you have entered all 16 digits without spaces or dashes. The security number is a three digit number located on the signature strip.
Question: Receiving an "Order Can Not be Processed" Message Answer: This message appears when multiple credit card errors have occurred on your account. Please contact the Store Staff (store@songramp.com or call us toll free at 1-866-220-2949) and confirm your username, Real Name and address. Once the info is confirmed, you will be able to make purchases.
Question: Receiving an Order Processing Failure Message Answer: "Order Processing Failure!AVS Failed: avsaddr=X, avszip=X. We were unable to verify your card address or Zip/Postal Code. Please contact Bondware Inc. at payments@SongRamp.com or call us toll free at 1-866-220-2949." This error can mean several things.1) The AVS (Address Verification System) is temporarily off-line. If you wait about 15 minutes and try placing your order again it will usually go through.
2) Your credit card company does not submit the AVS information to our credit card processor. This is rare and usually only happens with very small, independent banks or credit unions. Credit Cards have a two step process. An authorization puts a "hold" on the funds and a settlement actually places the charge on your card. Your credit card was authorized, but not settled because the address and zip were not verified. This means your card company shows an authorization from Bondware, Inc. as a "pending" charge; however, you will not actually be char... Question: Hi
I have just joined and wondered what was the best way to introduce myself - or do I just wade in?
Cheers
Nod Answer: Hi Nod, and WELCOME!!
Great Question! When you have time, check out over on the left side under "Support" the "Getting Started" page and the quick tutorial vids.. Then, get some info up on your page about yourself - the more the merrier.. When folks see you online "Who's Online" they will click your username to go to your page and if it's blank, well... So, pics, text etc a must.. Then, go to Open Mic and start listening and leaving comments.. The best way to have your songs heard is to go listen to and comment on others... Check out our forums too.. You can introduce your self there too.. If you're looking for songs to cut or folks to cut your songs or folks to collaborate with, check out our Collaboration Corner (left side)..
Let us know any time you have a question by emailing to admin@songramp.com..
Again, welcome!

Question: Can I mail a CD to SongRamp and have you convert it? Answer: We don't offer this service at this time. You might ask members in the forums for information as well, or check out the FAQ/Help on the open mic section for more info.
Question: Hi Steve and fellow RampStaffers:
I recently posted a song and would like to replace the current version of the song with a later and better "cut."
Is it possible to do this 'cause I don't want to eliminate the comments received and the effort involved in re-typing the lyrics?
Sometimes in our songwriting "euphoria" we get all excited and rush to roll out a new song when we have not let it "simmer" long enough to determine if it is "radio quality." Thanks for a prompt answer.
Dave Rice Answer: Hey Dave!
Yeah, just click on the 'edit" button and choose the new file that you want to upload then check the box agreeing to the "terms" and away ya go!

Question: Hello, I am a studio owner and producer and I play multiple instruments. It was recently suggested to me by a friend that I consider recording songwriter demos, ala recording demos with bass, drums, guitars, keyboards, vocals, etc, for songwriters so that they have something to pitch to major artist or label. What would be the most appropriate means on the site to connect with songwriters needing such services? I don't want to spam a forum, rather, I just want make it known my services are available. Answer: Hello Ryan, and welcome!
First off, thanks for the considerate approach, much appreciated!
There's a couple of ways to do it that I know of.
One way is to put some music up on your page, original mind you, no covers, then let people listen to them and get familiar with you. Listen to others work, get involved in the community, make some friends, as you go, let people know you provide a service.
We also sell "Banners" that run across the top of our page for people to see.
Lots of competition for that here, lots of people getting lots of top shelf demos done in Nashville and other places...
Good luck either way!
Shout out if ya need some help!
:-)

Question: I purchased 7 songs and can only get 2 to download properly.. now it gives me a message that I have exceeded the limit for downloads.. please help... order #1982.. I open them with ITunes
the songs that work: Breathe You All In Samantha
Every Heart's Desire
Answer: You will not be able to open them directly with iTunes at first. This is due to the download protection mechanisms we have in place to protect the artists. You will need to save them to a folder on your hard drive. On a PC this is done by using the right mouse button on the download link & selecting "Save to disk...". Create a folder on your desktop & save the songs into that. Once this is done, you can play locally via iTunes, and things will work fine.
I'm resetting your download counts so you can try again with instructions above.

Question: can i link to facebook? Answer: We don't have an automatic social networking link system set up yet, but we're working on it.. In the meantime, like for a song, click on the song's title to open the songs window then copy that url to paste into the link box on your Facebook status..

Question: BLAKE, I need some direction on what to do. I had paid for a pro membership for me. with my credit card (less than a week ago) I will be charged $ 5 a month. Well, I was just informed by my Collaborator (invisibleman) Gary Priest that his membership is due on April 6th. It has been one year this week, that we both met on the ramp, and we continue to write together. right now, he can not afford at this time to renew his membership. So I was hoping for this. Instead, of my membership being PRO for 60$ (or whatever it comes up to) I was wondering if you could change me to BASIC member for the year. And renew Gary Priests membership as a BASIC member too for the year?. I can continue paying the total amount of Basic plus Basic memberships, which what ever is the difference through my same credit card. Can you help this occur for me? I want to surprize Gary. Thanks, ... [more] Answer: Hi Pamela. I take care of all things financial at SongRamp. Here's what I can do. I can refund the amount you have already been charged, which, without looking, should be $11 ($5 to process the sign-up of month-to-month membership, and $6 for your first month). Then, you can go back on and sign each of you up for a basic membership at $30 each. Unfortunately, we can not do basic memberships in a month-to-month format. Let me know if you would like to do it this way, and we will get you all set up. You can reach me at jennifer@nashvillesongwriters.com or 615-256-3354.

Question: What is the Singer-Songwriter genre as opposed to the others such as Pop, Blues, Jazz, etc...
Thanks
Lee Answer: Hi Lee.. When I think of Singer-Songwriters I think of John Prine, Nanci Griffith, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell.. Musical Story tellers so to speak.. All music can be considered "multi-genre" I think.. In terms of SongRamp, and picking a genre to place a song in, pick the one that you think fits your song best..
Question: Hi Guys:
I have noticed that many times, when a song is selected for listening, the little pop-up player appears but the slider-bars for adjusting the volume and for indicating the duration of the song are "below the horizon" and cannot be adjusted. I even attempted to "resize" the box but that feature does not work, even though the symbol is depicted in the lower RH corner of the box/window. What gives? Is this a "glitch" or is there a workaround? Thanks. I hope this helps to make this great site even better.
Dave Answer: Glitch.. It's been reported and is being looked into.. Workaround seems to be, close the player then reopen. Sometimes takes a few close/reopens..
Question: Steve,
Thanks for writing. I tried to delete the post. Still doesn't work. I tried editing, but posting anew doesn't work either. I tried using IE instead of Firefox, no luck.
Perhaps, security settings?
Hmmm.... Thanks so much, Ken Answer: Hi Ken. I logged into your account and everything looks okay. Try this:
* Log into SongRamp
* Click on the My Ramp link at the top of the page
* Click on "My Songs"
* Click the 'edit' link on your song
* Make your changes and check the "Agree to Terms" box
* Click "Save" button
That ought to do it. The link you'll find on your homepage is currently broken; we're working on fixing it, as it's a site wide problem, but for now, you should be able to edit your songs from the My Ramp area.
Let us know if you need anything further.

Question: the system keeps saying that my address is correct. i've been trying for 30 minutes to make it work wothout success. can somebody please call me and take the order over the phone?
1-866-465-3616, kevin Crawford demolistencrew Answer: The error you're getting is largely due to your card being Canadian, with a Canadian address. Canadian credit card companies don't have an effective way to indicate the address is Canadian, so when the credit card is verifying the address, it looks at it as a U.S. address, which will cause an address failure each time. Please contact me at admin@songramp.com ASAP and I can walk you through an alternative method.

Question: Why do I have to scroll from side to side on the site? Answer: This site is configured for computer resolution at 1024x768 which is considered standard. If you still have to scroll from side to side, you may have something open in your browser such as your favorites or search that cause your browser size to be smaller. Simply close those windows.

Question: Please, How do I change order of my songs on homepage.. I Forget the answer
Thank you for your time and patience.
Annie Answer: Hi Annie - Click "edit" on the songs page and change the "Priority" number - the lower the number the higher on the list it goes.. The higher the number the lower down the list it goes.. 1 will be on top of a 99, for example.. If you have multiple songs with the same number then the most recently uploaded one goes on top..

We have a free membership, which is good for like 25 mb of storage, if I remember correctly, but I highly reccomend the "Basic" memebership at the minimum, and there are two other higher tiers if you need them..
I think the Basic is like $33.00 for the year and allows you quite a few songs to upload!

Question: Hi folks:
I decided to check the status of my songs on the various open mike charts. At the top of the page, there is an explanatory statement indicating that the stats are for the last seven days of activity. Does this mean that after seven days, a song drops off the chart? I suspect that is not the case because I see a number of songs that have been listed for significantly longer periods.
Before I was a "paying" member, I understood that beggars cannot be choosers... but I did cough up some change. Did I not send enough?... (sobbing plaintively)
One of my songs got 40 listens since it was posted on Jan. 7, 2009 and it was nowhere to be found on the "songs by number of listens" chart. Please explain so I can try to "play the game" a little better. (It's quite possible that my songs are just not able to "cut it" in this high-octane atmosphere...LOL!)
Thanks for 'splainin' it to me.
Dave Rice (rhymes with Nice!) Answer: Hi Dave,
The way it works is if you get 3 votes the first day, 2 the next, 3 more the third day, then 2 on the fourth 2 on the fifth,3 on the 6th and 2 more on the 7th, none on the eighth, then you have 17 on day seven and 14 on day eight, The first three from day one dropped off the count...Make sense?

Question: I was sent a message from another member. How do I find my messages? Answer: Instant message is now Site Mail. You can click on the Site Mail link located in the top under the banner. OR you can click on the You have messages.
If a member emails you, then it will go to your email and not be located on the site. Only using the Site Mail will the message be on the site.
Question: I checked the box for adult oriented lyrics...however there does not seem to be any indication once the song is posted. Answer: Hi, yes, that link is broken at the moment and our developers are looking into why. In the meantime, we ask that you edit the title and add something like *Adult Content*..
Thank you!

Question: Can I repost a song on the Open Mic? Answer:
Open Mic posts/reposts:
Regarding posting-reposting of the same song. If a member posts a song on the Open Mic then wants to repost a newer (or for that matter older) version of the song, then EDIT should be used. Simply click on Edit from Open Mic or your homepage and browse to the targeted version to upload. Your current comments and stats remain untouched. You are certainly free to advise people of the newer mix in the body of the text on the song’s page. There is no waiting period when using EDIT because the song doesn't post as the most recent Open Mic offering. The song won't change its position on the open mic page at all in other words.
Songs should not be posted repeatedly. If it is necessary to repost a previously posted song and the EDIT function cannot be used, reposts of the same song should be limited to TWO with a 90 day waiting period between each reposting.
It is okay for co-writers to have the same song posted on each... [more]
Question: Can not get the songs to play? Answer: Your browser has to support Flash (most newer browsers do) for the player to work. You might consider upgrading/downloading the latest version of Internet Explorer or the browser you are using. Make sure you are enabling Flash.
Question: hi just wondering why my song 'one dead and couting' is suddenly listed in the charts as having only 4 favored and at #80, when it actually has 12 favored and was at #24...? thank-you. J.K. Answer: Hi James, the charts reflect the previous weeks worth of information. In other words a song posted today and receives 10 favors today. Then one week from today those 10 favors "age off" the charts.. So the charts reflect a "rolling" weeks worth of data. The SongPage on your homepage reflects the cumulative total since the song was posted..
Question: Hi,
I was wondering if it's allowed to post a cover on my Songramp hompage. I write my own stuff, but every now and then I re-build an old song in a complete different style and add some of my own original music and lyrics. The song actually becomes a 'new' song, but still it's a cover.

I can't enter chat. I have downloaded the applet but still no go. Do I have to be a member?
Last one LOL My spell check only works sometimes, don't know why but the copy/paste link comes up and won't go away.
Sorry for being a newbie.
Ken Answer: No worries, Ken! Firstly, Welcome!!
1) You can see Dlete but you can see it on others posts because, well, we want ya to be able to delete your own posts but not anyone elses.. Same works for everybody - they can delete their own but not yours.. You'll also see DNLD next you your songs even though you didn't make the song freely downloadable.. Same deal - unless you specifically check the download box when you upload a tune, no one else will see the DNLD link..
2) Chat - We're having some issues beling looked at with our chat module.. You'll see "Chat" over on the left hand sidebar under "Features" and you'll see "Java Chat" under "Extras".. The Java Chat is the one to use.. But like I said, it's got some issues.. Biggest being you don't see who else is in the room with you, though there may well be someone lurking in there..

Question: My songs upload fine, but on the OpenMic page, the options for users include "hifi, lofi, dwnld, edit, delete", while others'
songs don't include the 'download' option if they don't want it to. On my homepage, there is a box that says "allow other members to download your material", and that box is unchecked. I've redone it a couple of times, but the download option is still there on the OpenMic page.
Any ideas? Thanks,
Pete Answer: Hi Pete, yes, the DNLD will ALWAYS appear to you (when you are logged in as you) on your page or Open Mic. However, unless you specify to allow downloads, the DNLD doesn't appear to others..

Question: Do I have to upload the whole song again if all I want to do is edit a word in the lyrics? Answer: No, just edit only the areas you need and save it. It will retain all the other information.
Question: When I select to not have my song downloadable, why do i still see a download link? Answer: Only you can see the download link. This is to give you the ability to access the song remotely if need be, or in case you've accidentally deleted the song from your local drive. No one else can see the download link, but you always will be able to see it, since you are the owner/poster of the song.

Question: I've pretty much figured out how to tweak my home page....I can't figure out how to link a picture with a song.....there is an empty photo box there, but I can't seem to figure out how to get a photo in it.
Help! Answer: Good Morning,
The Songpage photo uses your "Avatar" and you upload your "Avatar" on your Profile page. My Ramp/My Profile. And they have to be small pictures - 100 X 130 pixels or less. You'll need to choose a photograph to use then with a photo editing program find the "Resize" function. Once it's resized go to My Profile and upload the Avatar. This will now be displayed next to all your songs AND next to any posts you make in our forums.
Question: Received a bad Review, what can I do? Answer: Reviews are subjective and are coming from many different groups of people who interpret your song at various levels. It can be fans, other musicians, music industry professionals, etc. Negative feedback can be difficult to receive. If you allow reviews on your songs, you must realize there is a possibility that you might not agree with the review.

Question: I am a traditional country artist but I have a song that is country blues where should it go in country or in blues Answer: Hi Jerry!
No hard and fast rules about it. I would put it in the category that you think will give your song the best exposure with the crowd you're trying to reach.

Question: I'm quite certain now that I am trying to upload an mp3 file now and not a wav file but it's still not working. Is it because it is an i-tunes file? I know sometimes i-tunes won't play on other types of mp3 systems.
- Mary Wheelan Answer: Hi Mary!
It's definitely not iTunes, all of my stuff is done in iTunes as well..
One possible thing that has happened with some folks in the past is that they don't wait long enough for the mp3 to fully upload to the Songramp server. They will start doing something else on the computer not realizing that that interrupts the upload and corrupts the file...
Is that a possibility?

Question: I want to replace an existing version of a song with a newer mastered version. I don't want to change the description or the genre. How do I do this?
Thanks. (I've done it before, but it's been a while). Answer: Hi Marv.. It's simple.. Just click the "Edit" link on that songs page.. Then Browse to the updated version, put the check in the Terms of Service box and submit it.. All other info stays there unchanged included existing comments.. Now, it doesn't put the song back up at the top of open mic - it just replaces the file that's currently in that "slot"..
Holler anytime, Marv!

Question: Can I move a song to a different genre? Answer: Sure.
From the Song Page click "Edit". That opens the familiar "upload box" but there is no need to re-upload the song. Simply switch genre's and you have to tick the box about agreeing to the Terms Of Service and that's it! Hit save and you're good to go.

Question: What is the song format for the Open Mic? Answer: SongRamp supports the MP3 audio file format. An MP3 file is an audio file that has been compressed (anywhere from one fifth to one seventeenth of its original size) with little or no loss in sound quality.
The upload standard at SongRamp is MPEG version 1, Layer 3 (128 kbps, 44.1 kHz), or 192kpbs, 44.1 kHz in Stereo. This is near CD quality. We do not accept song clips or samples in this area. The Open Mic is for polished and completed songs only. When you upload your song, it is saved at as a HiFi version and automatically reformatted at a 24 kbps LoFi version. This is to help members who have dial up service enjoy your songs.
It is very IMPORTANT to properly label or tag your MP3 files. Any modern MP3 encoder will allow you to edit the track info and provide artist, track name, album, etc. Uploading your MP3 files without this info misses a huge opportunity to promote your work and sell product.&nb... [more]
