Not sure where this idea came from.  Played a couple of notes and out it came.  Love it when that happens.

IN THE RAIN LAST NIGHT

Mama left crying in the rain last night
Mama left crying in the rain last night
Papa said he never done nothing wrong
Maybe mama couldn't take any longer
Mama left crying in the rain last night

Woke up screaming when I heard that sound
Woke up screaming when I heard that sound
Darkness of night and there's no one around
Fear is shaking my soul to the ground
Woke up screaming when I heard that sound

Old shotgun by the bedroom door
Old shotgun by the bedroom door
Two empty shells laying on the floor
Maybe mama couldn't take it no more
Old shotgun by the bedroom door

Found poor daddy in a pool of blood
Found poor daddy in a pool of blood
Mama always said if she caught him again
That would be the last time, that would be the end
Found poor daddy in a pool of blood

Daddy's been buried in the cold cold ground
Daddy's been buried in the cold cold ground
Mama was nowhere to be found
She just couldn't take that final sound
Daddy's been buried in the cold cold ground

Left here standing by myself alone
Left here standing by myself alone
I heard the cries, heard the moans
I never could count on anyone
Left here standing by myself alone

Mama left crying in the rain last night

This is awesome Michael! I love everything about it. Kept me on the edge of my seat from begining to end. Lots of raw emotion, tastful playing, and a great vocal to top it off.

Another fantastic write and performance, Michael. This could be a movie themesong... or performed by any of the artists who specialize in songs just like this. Great vocal and your guitar work is super.

Great song Michael! Everything fits so well. The feel of the melody really captures the emotion in the vocals. That puts the story out front and captures the mind and compels it to visualize the song as it plays. Its hard to forget songs that that do that. Fine musicianship. Excellent production. Reminds me a bit of Robert Plant ;-)

Enjoyed the listen.

All the best,

Robin

Love the intro, it has a stirring quality to it, intensity building with the dramatic lyric, oh my gosh, I really like this one Michael. That sustained bass line during the first part of the verse...really excellent, bravo!

I agree with John/A-Muse, hyptnotizing and ominous sounding tune - great guitar work and breathless sounding vocals instill fear... totally atmospheric.

Michael - this is great song. You should be proud of this one. Love the hits, the guitar work and the hurt in your vocal. Masterful.

Great tune Michael. It's polished, but still has the power and emotion of a more raw and stripped down recording. Really nice. --Ben

Really a very well done song Michael. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Not sure why but the lines "Old shotgun by the bedroom door - two empty shells laying on the floor" really make the song for me. Great lines.

Very intense. Awesome backing music for this raw, emotional story. The percussion is so perfect. It's all perfect. Not something I'd like to listen to as I drift off to sleep, but I'll bet I won't be forgetting it soon.

jeez how'd I miss this. the percussion although just 1 simple hit has a huge affect on the overall. your voc and melody is just packed with passion. slide, like the percussion is sparse and perfect fit. strong story/lyric and dig how it progresses. I would put this in your top 3 Michael. just killer.

hey, much bigger sound on this one, and you know how I like the BIG sound! very good guitar intro, building tension, powerful lyric, simple but you can't argue with the impact of that opening line. The storyline is intense. This one is probably one ofyour best, reminds a bit of "Motherless Children" on Roseanne Cash's album "The List". It has the same repetitive line that is explained through the song and builds a powerful image of loss and tragedy. Great write here, and the recording is much better also.
