This song took me 8 years to complete. I wrote it when my Dad passed away on April 29, 2001. I couldn't even bring myself to record it until late last year. It was so emotional for me that I didn't even get a decent vocal track until about a week or so ago.
My humble thanks to Ken Matson for his incredible piano work, to Bobby Cabrera for his incredible harmonies and to Rami for his impeccable work on drums. You guys are the best and I couldn't have done it without your help.
The song will give you an insight to the kind of person my Dad was. He was great!
Hey, Dad... I miss you!
Verse 1
Hey, Dad
Next time I see you we'll share a smile
And I'll tell you all the things I've done
Since you've been gone awhile
And Dad
I've tried to live the way you taught
I look everybody in the eye
And listen when they talk
Verse 2
And hey, Dad
I miss the fun that we had here
Playing catch and hunting deer
And fishing from the foggy pier
And Dad
I really miss the talks we had
'Cause there's no one here to guide me now
When things are going bad
Chorus
And I know you're out there somewhere
With a big one on the line
Making the angels laugh out loud
One line at a time
And though you mean the world to me
I never will forget
I wasn't finished talking to you yet
Bridge
Dad I swear sometimes I hear your voice inside my brain
Telling me you're happy now and not feeling the pain
Verse 3
Hey, Dad
I know I wasn't always right
But when the challenge stood before me
I stood up to the fight
And Dad
I know our time may soon be gone
So one more favor
Say "Hi" to Mom
Final Chorus
And I know you're out there somewhere
With a big one on the line
Making the angels laugh out loud
One line at a time
And though you mean the world to me
I never will forget
I wasn't finished talking to you yet
I wasn't finished talking to you yet
