Back to Open Mic

This piece is the first track on my new CD, "NOTES FROM ACROSS THE SEA".

It announces the beginning of an adventure! Wandering and exploring with my sailor husband, Claude, I've been touched by many people, stories, sites, and sounds. While I've often taken photos to remember them by, music is my truest way of expressing.

As the melodies started to accumulate, my daughter, Christina, had the idea of asking a world class group to record them. While I've been a performer for most of my life, I'm learning that as a writer it's good to not limit myself to only what I can play myself. So we asked ENSEMBLE GALILEI, a Grammy Nominated Early Music/Celtic/Classical Crossover Group (
www.EGMusic.com
), to arrange and record the tunes, giving birth to this gorgeous CD! Thank you Ensemble Galilei! My heart has been heard!

When my former music partner, Gordon Bok (www.TimberheadMusic.com), heard our CD he wrote me saying, "It blew our hatches off!!" - obviously he's a sailor too ;-) More officially, he wrote in our liner note, "With so many tastes and textures, this CD is a feast for the musical gourmet."
- obviously, he also likes food ;-)

Ask for info to buy the CD now by emailing CGMuir@aol.com or order online at www.Timberheadmusic.com. Soon www.CDBaby.com will also have it for sale. And eventually I expect to have my own website up - www.AnnMayoMuir.com where the CD, among other things, can also be bought.

Wonderful! Performance is top notch as is the recording. Lots of melodic twists and turns, a good pace, and a very traditional sound. Lovely. -Larry

Annie, I feel really late to the game on this one. (Oh...that's right...I was on vacation!) Great piece with some wonderful sonorities I don't often hear in this style of music. Really outstanding and very enjoyable. Peace, -PHil

The spanish have a term for the feel of this song: "Picaro". A person who is Picaro is quick witted, a bit of a garrish rogue, the sort who gets into trouble and out with a wink. Huck Finn would be an American "picaro". The title, "twist the devil's tail" has a perfectly Irish flair. Ah, lass, you've a naughty twinkle in yer eye.
