Back to Open Mic

This piece is the 5th track on my new CD, "NOTES FROM ACROSS THE SEA"

This is a tune of comfort for the human spirit as it struggles on toward spring. I dedicate this to my daughter, Christina, whose vision and understanding helped this project bloom. I also give thanks to many of you for your words of encouragement along the way!

Wandering and exploring with my sailor husband, Claude Graf, I've been touched by many people, stories, sites, and sounds. While I've often taken photos to remember them by, music is my truest way of expressing.

As the melodies started to accumulate, my daughter, Christina, had the idea of asking a world class group to record them. While I've been a performer for most of my life, I'm learning that as a writer it's good to not limit myself to only what I can play myself. So we asked ENSEMBLE GALILEI, a Grammy Nominated Early Music/Celtic/Classical Crossover Group (
www.EGMusic.com), to arrange and record the tunes, giving birth to this gorgeous CD! Thank you Ensemble Galilei! My heart has been heard!

When my former music partner, Gordon Bok (www.TimberheadMusic.com), heard our CD he wrote me saying, "It blew our hatches off!!" - obviously he's a sailor too ;-) More officially, he wrote in our liner note, "With so many tastes and textures, this CD is a feast for the musical gourmet."
- obviously, he also likes food ;-)

Ask for info to buy the CD now by emailing CGMuir@aol.com or order online at www.Timberheadmusic.com. Soon www.CDBaby.com will also have it for sale. And eventually I expect to have my own website up - www.AnnMayoMuir.com where the CD, among other things, can also be bought.

I enjoy the chamber group performance as it offers an uncluttered presentation of the melody, harmony and melodic counterparts. This melody is very exquisite and emotional, and appears to underscore your title as it brings to my mind the thick blanket of snow during dusk of a silent winter's day. Very nice; voted fave. Cheers and Twangs! T-Bob

Thanks so much for the positive remarks and support.
The instruments you hear are viola de gamba, harp and violin. I do feel fortunate to have their talent playing this music and bringing to life what had been only on paper before this.

The wistful, sentimental nature of the melody reminds me of a tune I used to play. I think it was Anniversary Waltz, or something like that. It's been years since I performed. No recuerdo!

I gravitate toward minor keys and this I really like. Beginning with the A up to E and back down to B sequence at 45 seconds are my favorite measures.

Truly beautiful. The melody and tone are truly evocative of a peaceful layer of snow over the hills. It also seems to capture the mood I've noticed in my elderly mother as she stares out the window at the snow, the birds picking seed out of the snow, and the squirrels and geese scampering around in it...a bit of melancholy wrestling with the very concious effort to seize the day. Every one is precious, is it not?

We play your CD (thanks again for that) all the time and what I particularly love about your music and recordings, is that it's like having the real musicains in my room, playing just for me.
A very sad, slightly melancholy piece, Annie, that brings out emotions and sharpens my ears, so the listening pleasure is doubled. ~ John
