This piece is the second track on my new CD, "NOTES FROM ACROSS THE SEA"

I wrote this when Andrea died. Andrea was lovely and talented and my husband's oldest daughter. Her Papa's right hand on a sailing boat, she could read his mind as he could hers. She lost her mother too early to cancer and was left feeling broken, so she lost herself further in addiction, finally spilling over the edge at 44.

All the kings horses and all the Kings men couldn't put our dear child back together again. We never stopped loving her. She was quiet and shy, loved books and cooking, teaching me her secrets when we were together. She would always help her friends. I am happy that I was one of them.

Married to Andrea's father, Claude, I've been touched by many people, stories, sites, and sounds. With Claude and his two girls, I've traveled and explored many surprising places by sailboat and camper. While I've often taken photos to remember my experiences, music is my truest way of expressing.

As the melodies started to accumulate, my daughter, Christina, had the idea of asking a world class group to record them. While I've been a performer for most of my life, I'm learning that as a writer it's good to not  limit myself to only what I can play myself. So we asked ENSEMBLE GALILEI, a Grammy Nominated Early Music/Celtic/Classical Crossover Group (
www.EGMusic.com), to arrange and record the tunes, giving birth to this gorgeous CD! Thank you Ensemble Galilei! My heart has been heard!

When my former music partner, Gordon Bok (www.TimberheadMusic.com), heard our CD he wrote me saying, "It blew our hatches off!!" - obviously he's a sailor too ;-) More officially, he wrote in our liner note, "With so many tastes and textures, this CD is a feast for the musical gourmet."
- obviously, he also likes food ;-)

Ask for info to buy the CD now by emailing CGMuir@aol.com or order online at www.Timberheadmusic.com. Soon www.CDBaby.com will also have it for sale. And eventually I expect to have my own website up - www.AnnMayoMuir.com where the CD, among other things, can also be bought.

I've missed you Annie. First I have seen of yours for a while. This is indeed expressive and endearing. You have a marvelous talent of getting your feelings into your music. Your song to Andrea is a lovely memorial to her. If she is in a happy place where she can hear it I'm sure she will love it and appreciate the love you expressed so beautifully....Harry

Stunning all around! Melody is exceptional-and the various instrumentation sprinkled in all the right places just pushes this one way over the top. Production is outstanding. I'm so sorry for your loss, it's very sad where our inspiration comes from sometimes and this is definitely straight from the heart. Very emotional composition! big hugs and yours in song, Colleen

Ammie - it's hard to know what to say after hearing such an exquisite piece of music. I remember hearing this the first time when you did it on Sibelius and thinking then how glorious it would be to hear it performed with celtic instruments - and now we have it - and it passes all expectation. Your experience throughout your distinguished musical career shines through - as does your complete understanding of of the emotional qualities of chord and melody structure.
An example to all who think learning five chords on a guitar is enough to make them a musician.
You are a true exponent of the craft Annie.
Gilly.

Beautiful tribute. As a drug/alcohol counselor I'm always mindful of the devastation in the lives of alcoholics and those who love them. It's a hideous disease. Thank you for sharing this. Flyingsheep

Annie,

I can think of nothing new to say that has not already been eloquently stated by others. Haun ting, wistful, delicate...comments by otehrs, but so true.

My oldest son died in an accident when he was 20 years old. I can empathize the passion of your music. There is nothing more tender than when the heart performs its songs of melancholy and loss. You have so eloqurntly and dramatically captured the the emotion of the human soul.

what a wonderful tribute to a tender heart. And I agree, it is melancholy, yet deeply hopeful. We all have our moments of being troubled in a hard world, but the light shines on, and she certainly left a gentle sun behind her. It shines through this beautiful piece, thank you. Mary

such delicate and complex creatures are we, fragile in body and mind. my wife and i were just discussing a friend's father, whose lovely wife died after thirty years of marriage. he seems to have given up the will to live. it's a miracle that we as a species survive, considering how easily crushed we are by the inevitable tragedies of life. i wonder if it's not art like yours that keeps enough of us going...?
