I was driving down to Kyle's house for a writing session when I became aware of the fact that I was about to die in a few seconds time. Well, not quite, but nearly. However, no thanks are due to the loony who attempted a near impossible overtaking manouevre which would have resulted in carnage if other drivers hadn't practically stood their vehicles on their noses as they braked for dear life. I'm not sure what the exact U.S. equivalent is to "TOSSER". But, for those of you not familiar with the term, let me just say that it's not a compliment.
I arrived at Kyle's and, after I'd changed into a fresh pair of trousers, we started work on this addition to the canon of driving songs.

Kyle does the lead vocal, bass, guitars and drums; I do the keyboards and backing vocals. Ideally, we'd have liked to get Marc Bolan to play some lead guitar but that proved to be unfeasible.

Enjoy. JahLove; ~GerryMATW

Road Rage

(Words & Music by Gerry Coogan & Kyle Robertson)

Steer clear of his way
If you want to last the day...

He ride into controversy,
He seeking confrontation,
You’d better not use his lane, (you know what I’m saying)
Or he’ll trouble you.

He’s set on overtaking you,
Ninety-five ain’t fast enough,
He can’t get past enough
In his souped-up B.M.W.

He’s on your tailgate,
Face at the windscreen,
He’ll cut you up
Like a psycho on amphetamines,

Woh-oh-oh-oh-oh, road rage.

He may blow a gasket,
His eyeballs burn like headlights,
We got a man on a mission,
Race you to the red light,

So you can expect no courtesy, That’s not in his repertoire,
You can see by his number plate;
Tee-oh-double-five-E-R.

He give no quarter,
He press the pedal in,
He’s a highwayman,
Pumped up on adrenaline.

Who-oh-oh-oh-oh, road rage.

Flying down the motorway,
Digging up the fast lane,
Beginning the final lap, (take it away), Ayrton Senna style.

Crashing through the barrier, Reaching his expiry date,
Now he is really late;
He never went that extra mile.

Now on my tailgate,
I see a ghostly car,
That registration, —
T-oh-double-five-E-R.

Dig it! Absolutely dig it! How many times am I cursing out the other driver while not paying attention to what I'm doing? Sweet production and arrangement. Peace, -PHil

my biggest gripe is the crazy folks who talk on cell phones while driving: ARRRRGGH! This is a very cool and savvy song, got a great beat and the mix is really fine. This is a song that needed to be written. Good on ye lads! CAM

This song made me laugh out loud. There are so many great lines, but the TO55ER number plate is inspired. And so is the idea of 'racing to the next red light'. It's all so true.
I'm sure we've all seen this driver too many times!

The problem with your planet is that you have seat-belts, airbags etc. On my planet, safety features are illegal. It is mandatory for each car to have a sharp spike, tipped with curare, which protrudes from the steering wheel and points directly at the driver's heart. Although this measure was controversial when it was first introduced, there have been no car crashes for over forty years now.
Matt.

Alright the kings have returned. This is as all your songs exceptionaly tight. You capture the spirit of the genre, and the vibration that surronds it, like a true Rasta that you are. Thanks jb

CAM's right about the mobile phones too. The other day, as I was driving my girlfriend into her work, a woman driver on her mobile phone cut across me so sharply that I dropped my electric shaver into my cornflakes and spilled milk all over my crossword. Pah!

It must be easy to pop a gasket especialy when everybody is driving on the left side of the road.LOL (I believe you guys drive on the left side and stearing wheel is on the right side of the car)correct me if I'm wrong.
It's a pleasure to hear a song from Masters of reggae. Very good production, very professional.
I like the groove and whole instrumentation.

Ha-ha!
Actually, most of the world's population drives on the left side of the road. Only those who have chosen to follow the lead of the tyrant and dictator, Napoleon Bonaparte, buck the trend.
So there!

What side of the road do they drive in China? because that would be the most of the world's population.lol

Kyle and Gerry, excellent co-write. I like the unique and well thought of story line and lyrics I like how you use; "Tee-oh-double-five-ER".Cool! anybodys license you know? LOL
Fun upbeat dance song too. You guys always rock!
And Gerry, watch out for the maniacs on the road. That is what I call them here in the US.

Sincerely, Pamela

Think I'll adopt your alter-ego's method, and go for the poisoned sharp steel spike. Should keep Mr T055ER at reasonable distance on the M42 late today. And I'll be singing along with you too, cool work guys, you never fail to produce the goods, this is utterly excellent. T

What a great start to my day! A new MATW gem to sparkle through the frosty fog here. NOT a good day to drive, even in England where we have the best drivers.[wink].
I drive a lot in the U.S. and some drivers appear to trap their middle finger in the steering wheel, causing them to drive like TO55ER5. When I point that out to them they always show me their injured finger as if by way of an explanation!!!!
Back to the song.... I am truely in awe at the imaginative writing and the excellent quality you guys always produce. Love the lyrical idea, those great lines, the whole package is thoroughly professional and a great pleasure to listen (or drive) to. JAHowarth

A day in the life of road ragers, reggae style. People better watch out with you guys. cross MATW and you'll be chastised/punished in song :-) I see these maniacs on the road daily and I salute your musical effort to "show them the light" :-) As always, your performance was wonderful--talent galore.

Blimey Gerry! That happens to me on a daily basis and I drive a big red van with Royal Mail on the side and they still say "I didn't see ya mate!!" Wot is it with BMW drivers anyway? Chavs!!
This is so sounding like 'Steel Pulse' you guys have made this style your own. I'm really envious of your sound it's so bang on. Good topic as well as everyone can relate to it. Wicked!!

Fun song, great recording, thanks for the listen.

I just had this same guy yell something at me this week as he went around me..I know the last word was moron and the first word had two syllables,so I am figuring he must have called me an oxymoron.Got to thinking about it and wrote a song about my life being an oxmoron,so the guy has now inspited at least two songs to be written!

Two guys got bludgeoned to death here in Malaysia for being slow out of a parking space. Somehow cars make us impatient and selfish.

I think you and Kyle have captured it well in this song. Now I challenge you to do one about this big bloke who pushes pedestrians off the sidewalk!

Through adversity often springs the seeds of great creativity. And so it is here. (I did have to look up t****r in wikipedia, and it was most informative. I might start to use that over on this side of the pond.) Anyway, another wonderful tune added to the ear-expanding list of what is already some of the best music anywhere. I'm glad you lived to laugh about this one! Jahlove, Mon. -Dennis

So sorry I'm late guys - traffic was shocking. Tossers everywhere. Fabulous work as always - love the jazz/reggae fusion that is your trademark, along with the top-notch production and performance. Bounced along at a steady 80mph - no snags at the M5/M42 interchange - smooth as silk.
Gorgeous.
Right - I'll be off then - humming this as I go - stuck behind a Ginster's Pie lorry all the way back to Exeter.

That used to be me. always in a hurry. I have since mellowed in my old age and think reckless driving, cell phones, eating your lunch, personal grooming and all around stupidity while driving should be outlawed! what a great song. super performances and production. I am glad you and the others were practicing good defensive driving. loved it-rathole

I'm like Clark- I've also mellowed with age. Now I watch the Type-A's and the rageaholics whiz by me on the highway as I groove to my car stereo. MATW, your music is first and foremost and irresistable outpouring of rhythm. The clever wordplay is a fabulous bonus. But even if I were feral and unsocialized, your grooves would make me howl at the moon! ~~rr
